You are looking for the best time to visit Ecuador and are wondering “How is Ecuador in May?”. Should you really visit the Country of the Four Worlds during this month?
This article is all about What to do in Ecuador in May, how the weather will be, and the special events happening.
TEMPERATURE IN ECUADOR IN MAY
You are planning a trip to Ecuador and would like to know the average temperature in Ecuador in May.
Well, I have good news for you! The month of May is the month when the season is transitioning from rainy season to dry.
But “what does that mean?” you might ask.
The rainy season occurs between late January and late April when it rains almost every day. And especially on the coast. So if you are planning to visit Ecuador to relax on the beach, the rainy season might not be the best time for you.
On the other hand, due to the high amount of humidity, the rainy season in Ecuador is the hottest on the coast.
In the Andean part of the country, rainy season or not, the temperatures remain more or less the same. Some days will feel like spring and others like autumn. Never too hot, but never too cold either.
So now that you know that Ecuador in May is indeed a good idea, temperature-wise, let’s see what you can plan for your trip there.
THINGS TO DO IN ECUADOR IN MAY
On the 24th of May, the victory of the Battle of Pichincha is celebrated.
This is the battle that led to the independence of the country. Celebrations will happen all over the country, and it can be a cool experience for you to be submerged in the Ecuadorian culture.
There is no other major event happening in Ecuador in May, but this doesn’t mean that you won’t have anything to do.
I have two other articles on the blog with the best 1-week and 2-week itinerary in Ecuador to help you plan your trip.
GO TO THE Galápagos Islands
If the weather still feels too humid for you on the Ecuadorian continent, go to the Galápagos Islands.
This place might have the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. White sand, turquoise water, and the craziest kind of animals.
You have three principal islands in the Galápagos archipelago. Santa Cruz, San Cristóbal and Isabela.
Santa Cruz is the capital of the Galápagos, so if you are looking for bigger hotels and restaurants, that would be the place to go. But honestly, this is the island I liked the least.
San Cristóbal and Isabela are much wilder and I think that if you want to experience the Galápagos for nature and the biodiversity you should focus on these two islands.
Galápagos Islands BUDGET
The Galápagos Islands are expensive. Much more expensive than the continent, so you should take that into account when thinking of your Galápagos Islands Budget.
First, as a foreigner, you will have to pay $100 for the entrance to the Galápagos archipelago when landing at the airport. Ecuadorians have to pay too, but only $5;
Restaurants and hotels are also more expensive. And if you want to go on excursions, it can add up quickly! Fortunately, you will also find a ton of free activity to do in the Galápagos Islands.
So if you are on a budget, you should walk around and enjoy the nature. I visited the Galápagos Islands on a budget and I promise you, it is doable.
