You are thinking of taking a trip to Ecuador, and you’re wondering, “Why should I go? What is Ecuador famous for?”. Stick with me, and at the end of this article, you’ll be convinced to visit the “Country of the Four Worlds”.
THE diversity of landscapes
There is a reason why this little South American country is called the Country of the Four Worlds, and you are about to discover why!
Picture this: towering Andean peaks, lush Amazon rainforests full of biodiversity, pristine coastal beaches, and the enigmatic Galápagos Islands. Four different worlds in a country of only 256.370 km².
Any kind of landscape you are looking for, Ecuador has it. And you know what’s the best about it? This incredible variety enables Ecuador to host 6.1% of the global count of species (both flora and fauna), securing its position as the number one country in terms of biodiversity per square kilometer worldwide.
THE FOOD
Let’s be honest with each other… We all travel to taste new food. And believe me, Ecuador won’t disappoint you. Be ready for a gastronomic adventure!
Ecuadorian cuisine is a delightful mix of flavors and is as diverse as its landscapes. From the coast’s seafood to the comforting food of the Andes and the crazy variety of fresh tropical fruits, you are in for a treat.
While you’re there, don’t forget to try the “encebollado”, a tuna and manioc soup usually served for breakfast. I know how it sounds… But there is a reason why it has been named the world’s second-best soup. (Yes, OF THE ENTIRE WORLD!)
You might want to be aware, though, that some of their traditional dishes contain unexpected things: Liver, kidney, chicken foot… Nothing goes to waste! But hey, that’s also part of the adventure!
THE CULTURAL HERITAGE
Ecuador’s cultural heritage might have been one of my biggest astonishments. Traditions are still a big part of the daily lives of many locals. You’ll be surprised to see that traditional outfits are worn on the street and ancestral rituals are still practiced.
Add to the mix the ancient civilizations and colonial history, the traditional crafts, and the warmth of people. I promise you that you’re in for an adventure that will be both captivating and enriching.
THE Galápagos Islands
Darwin, the Evolution Theory… Does that ring a bell? If it does, yes, that’s the place! If it doesn’t, you still have to visit this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
From giant tortoises to blue-footed boobies and the whitest beaches you have ever seen, the Galápagos Islands are a haven for nature enthusiasts and a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Just be aware that, as they are islands, everything is more expensive there, so you might want to prepare a budget before you visit. But believe me, it is worth every dollar you’ll spend.
Now that you know all that, I believe you are dying to visit the Country of the Four Worlds. And you’d be right to do so! Ecuador is a symphony of natural wonders, cultural richness, and gastronomic delights that has already convinced travelers from around the globe.
Pack your bags, and I’ll help you plan your trip here!
